Abstract
MnP has a Curie point (Tc) at 291.5°K and a screw spin structure below 50°K. The screw axis is parallel to the a axis. The effect of uniaxial compression on the screw-ferromagnetic transition point (Tα) and on Tc is measured by monitoring the resistivity along the a axis of a single crystal. With the compression along the a axis, Tα increases and Tc decreases. The compression along either the b or c axis, on the other hand, decreases Tα and increases Tc. These results imply that the a-axis compression enhances the antiferro-magnetic interaction relative to the ferromagnetic one and that compression along the b or the c axis produces the opposite effect. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
