Abstract
The geometric transition probability, discovered by Michael Berry of Bristol University, UK, has now been characterised experimentally for the first time by J W Zwanziger, S P Rucker and G C Chingas, using an ingenious technique based on nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) (Phys. Rev. A (1991) 43 3232). An introduction to the theory of this new geometric effect in quantum mechanics was given by Ian Aitchison in Physics World last November (p22).
