Abstract
Seasonal changes in oxygen consumption rates of Chlamys islandica acclimated to laboratory conditions have been measured at ambient temperatures. It was found that seasonal variations in oxygen consumption probably cannot be explained by seasonal variations in temperature. Maximum rates were found at comparatively low temperatures in April-May when shell growth and gonad growth occur. The relationships between size and oxygen consumption and between food intake and oxygen consumption are discussed. This publication has 25 references indexed in Scilit:
