L'espace touristique de la grande ville

Abstract
Tourist space of the large city : elements of synthesis and application to Christchurch (New Zealand) . — The role and place of the large city in the spatial organisation of tourism have been largely neglected by geographers, both in empirical and theoretical studies. This paper emphasizes the generating and receiving functions of the large city and outlines the elements which compose its tourist space. Two main elements are analysed — the flows of tourists and the spatial structure of tourist facilities. The characteristics of each are analysed systematically then illustrated by a case study of Christchurch, New Zealand.
