Abstract
The purpose of this study was to apply statistical rigor to Longo's (1982) validation study of the Fry Readability Graph. After finding the readability levels of 10 college composition handbooks by applying the Dale‐Chall Readability formula, the Flesch Reading Ease formula, the Farr‐Jenkins‐Paterson formula, and the Fry Readability Graph, Longo concluded that the Fry Readability Graph has comparative validity with the Dale‐Chall Readability formula and with the Flesch Reading Ease formula and that the Fry Readability Graph is accurate within one grade level. The results of a two‐way analysis of variance with repeated measures over one factor and Scheffe’ post hoc tests confirm Longo's conclusions. Keywords
