Abstract
Thyroid response to TSH (thyroid-stimulating hormone) was studied in 44 cases of hypothyroidism that had developed more than 1 yr. after I131 treatment. In those responding to TSH a systematic attempt was made to withdraw the thyroid substitution therapy. Hypothyroidism was found to be permanent in all but 1 of the 44 cases. Hypothyroidism that had developed more than 1 yr. after radioiodine treatment was not transient, and the high incidence of this hypothyroidism reported previously cannot be attributed to overdiagnosis. This publication has 6 references indexed in Scilit:
