Abstract
It is shown that Mott-insulator (or semiconductor) state can become unstable to the formation of Cooper pairs. The transition between the states can be either first or second order. The ferroelectric instability of the Mott insulator is also discussed and a spin-analog model is presented that can account for all three thermodynamic states. Keywords
