Apparent Effect of Octan-1-ol on Glycogen Metabolism in Muscle in Vitro

Abstract
A procedure for incubation of isolated muscles in small tubes, with constant gassing via a fine tube, has recently been developed in these laboratories. It was necessary to use an antifoaming agent, and in initial experiments a drop of octan-1-ol was added to the surface of the medium for this purpose. No insulin stimulation or incorporation of labelled glucose into glycogen was found. It has now been shown that this is due to interference by octan-1-ol with glycogen metabolism in muscle
