Abstract
In the present report, the techniques of isolation and morphological and functional characteristics of a subpopulation of human endometrial stromal cells are described. The data obtained point that these cells are macrophages, and that the uterine mucosa can be considered as a hormone-dependent territory of the monocyte-histiocytic system, since these cells can only be demonstrable during the proliferative or secretory phases of the uterine cycle, but not in atrophic, postmenopausal endometria. Keywords
