Abstract
The author develops a theoretical model that relates community organizational processes to community growth. The model suggests that organizational level and organizational dynamism in communities are related to community size, the level of urban services available, and the demand for such services by the inhabitants. The model is tested on a Costa Rican sample, substantiating the hypothesized relationships. The strategic and tactical implications of the model and the findings for community development efforts are discussed. The model is found useful, but a cautionary note is added for those considering practical applications. Keywords
