Peanut Plants from Single De-Embryonated Cotyledons1

Abstract
Twenty-three peanut plants have been grown to maturity from single peanut cotyledons from which the embryos had been removed. Fifteen of these plants produced peanuts. The experimental seeds were first immersed in liquid nitrogen (-320.4° F, -195.8° C) for various periods of time ranging from 24 hours to 108 hours and the cotyledons were separated while still frozen. If the embryos did not break free while still frozen, they were removed later at room temperature.
