Methodological Perspectives for the Study of Outdoor Recreation

Abstract
Methodological perspectives for the study of outdoor recreation are classified according to (1) the social aggregate level, (2) the social-psychological level, (3) the types of social organization, (4) activity attributes, (5) the community level and (6) the social ecological approach. General research topics useful to social scientists are suggested for each of these perspectives. Because outdoor recreation is a practical rather than a theoretical problem, it is suggested that studies should consider a variety of methodological approaches.
