Abstract
Synopsis: Radiocarbon assay of a sample of the Burn of Benholm peat gave an age of >42 000 B.P. This age and the stratigraphical position of the peat within the basal part of the till of the Strathmore glaciation places the peat in the Early or Middle Devensian stage. Pollen spectra show that the peat was formed in a tundra environment but do not give a more detailed dating of the peat. Keywords
