Abstract
I have read with interest the information in your journal concerning the new disease mucocutaneous lymph node syndrome (MLNS) which seems to have almost reached epidemic proportions in Japan and is tentatively ascribed to a possible Rickettsia-like organism yielding a clinical picture not unlike periarteritis nodosa. While doubtless these assertions will prove to be correct in time and the evidence for infection would appear paramount, I would raise the question of possible background factors and in particular exposure to heavy metal.
