Abstract
An exact expression is derived for two-sample jackknife estimate of the simple matching coefficient and the Jaccard index of similarity when quadrat sampling procedures are used. The jackknife estimates are functions of the number of species that occur in only one quadrat at a given site. The jackknife procedure gives less biased estimates than standard estimators amd allows one to calculate the standard error of the estimate and construct approximate confidence interval estimates. The bias-reducing properties and the appropriateness of the confidence interval estimates are investigated via simulation. The effects of quadrat size and sample size are also investigated via simulation. Quadrat size was unimportant as long as sampling area was fixed. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
