Abstract
The tert-butyl substituted compounds of gallium have been synthesized and characterized: [(tBu)2Ga{μ-OCH(CF3)2}]2 (1), [(tBu)2Ga(μ-O2CEt)]2 (2), [(tBu)2Ga(μ-O2CCF3)]2 (3), [(tBu)2Ga{μ-OC(Ph)N(H)}]2 (4), [(tBu)2Ga{μ-OC(Me)NPh}]2 (5), (tBu)3Ga[OC(Ph)NMe2] (6), (tBu)3Ga[OP(Ph)2NH(nPr)] (7), (tBu)2Ga[ON(H)C(O)Ph] (8), [(tBu)2Ga{μ-O2S(CF3)O}]2 (9), (tBu)2Ga(μ-Cl)2Li(HOiPr)2 (10), and [Li(HOiPr)4][(tBu)2GaCl2] (11). X-Ray crystallographic characterization was obtained for compounds 1–6 and 8–11. Compounds 10 and 11 exhibit three-dimensional hydrogen bonded networks in which augmentation of the O–H⋯Cl hydrogen bond is proposed to be due to the increased acidity of alcohols bonded to the Lewis acidic lithium ions. A discussion of the dependence of the puckering of the chair-like conformation in eight-membered cyclic compounds of the Group 13 metals is presented. Keywords
