Absence of the Inferior Vena Cava Associated With an Atrophic Right Kidney and Hypertension

Abstract
A 6 yr old girl presented with acute hypertension and urinary tract infection. Evaluation revealed congenital absence of the inferior vena cava associated with an atrophic right kidney. A possible embryologic mechanism is proposed in an effort to relate the renal findings and vascular anomaly. Possible relationships among the urinary tract infection, hypertension and renal abnormality are discussed.
