Abstract
A study of the effects of feeding desiccated thyroid substance, of adrenalectomy, and a combination of the 2 on the succinoxidase and the cyto-chrome oxidase activities was made on the liver tissue of young hooded rats. Feeding 400 mgs. desiccated thyroid daily resulted in a significant increase in both enzyme systems. Adrenalectomy resulted in decreased activity of the 2 enzyme systems and when combined with thyroid-feeding will decrease or prevent the increased activity of the succinoxidase and the cytochrome oxidase which normally occurs in hyper-thyroidism. The changes in enzyme activity after thyroid-feeding and after adrenalectomy became significant on the 4th-6th day after the treatment was begun. Keywords
