Abstract
Daily subcut injections of 30 mg of histamine in beeswax induce gastric or duodenal ulceration in 50% of dogs allowed to eat ad lib. The addition of daily injections of 100 mg of testosterone or 5 mg of diethyl stilbesterol increases the incidence of ulceration to 83% in each case. The time required for ulcer production was reduced to about half. Secretions of denervated gastric pouches (Heidenhain) in dogs were not significantly altered in volume or acidity by daily treatment with either testosterone or stilbesterol. It was concluded that the observed increase in susceptibility to histamine ulceration must be related to a mechanism other than the quantity or digestive potency of the gastric secretion. Keywords
