Abstract
This article weaves together the author's personal, political, and professional route toward an understanding of interpersonal violence and the gradual development of a model of clinical assessment and treatment. Her work is organized around two central concepts: 1) Self‐determination, and 2) Self‐disclosure. The model integrates family systems and psychodynamic theories as well as drawing on the resources of self‐help groups. Keywords
