Abstract
[a]. When 2 simple lysins (saponin, digitonin, Na taurocholate, Na glycocholate, or Na oleate) act together in a system, the total activity is rarely the same as the sum of the 2 individual hemolytic activities. Probably the lysins interact with each other, mutually enhancing or inhibiting each other''s lytic activity.[long dash][b]. The previous conclusion that it is permissible to treat the inhibition as a reaction between lysin and plasma-protein, by means of which the lysin is removed from the system, is confirmed. The quantity of lysin so removed depends on the no. of cells present in the system.
