Abstract
Rats were drugged or not drugged during trials of free exposure (Experiment 1) or forced exposure (Experiment 2) to the compartment in which they had been shocked. Subsequent measurement of fear during the nondrugged state indicated that previously drugged Ss were less fearful than previously nondrugged Ss only when the drug resulted in increased exposure to the fear compartment during the exposure-while-drugged trials.
