Stalking attack and eating behaviors elicited from the same sites in the hypothalamus.

Abstract
Electrical stimulation of the lateral hypothalamus in cats produced stalking attack against rats. Lower intensity stimulation of each of these same brain sites produced eating behavior. Other experiments showed the eating to be normal ingestive behavior. It is suggested that the area of the lateral hypothalamus from which stalking or predatory attack is elicited is responsible for the mediation of food acquisition responses, attack being one form of such behavior.
