The Estimation of Cyanogenetic Glucosides

Abstract
The distillation method of estimating cyanogenetic glucosides is unsatisfactory for cherry laurel leaves (Prunus laurocerasus). Two new methods are described in which the glucoside is decomposed by enzyme action and the liberated HCN carried over into potash in a current of air. The HCN absorbed is titrated in the alkaline liquid by AgNO3 in the presence of KI. In both methods, the leaves are killed in a current of air in the apparatus and the remaining glucoside is decomposed by added emulsin. In the 1st, they are killed by boiling alcohol, and in the simpler method, by heating gradually in water to 100[degree]C. Results by these methods agree.
