Abstract
The average multiplicity of neutrons emitted from a nucleus which has absorbed a meson has been determined for several materials: for Pb, 2.32±0.17 for Bi, 1.54±0.12 for Sn, 0.95±0.17 for Al. From , by using compound nucleus theory, the average excitation given the nucleus was found to be about 20 Mev for all the nuclei studied.
