Abstract
High-speed liquid chromatographic separation of chloroaniline and toluidine isomers was accomplished in six minutes using cadmium-impregnated silica gel. Efficiency and capacity factors were found to depend on the amount of cadmium impregnated. The increase in retention time and selectivity in cadmium-impregnated columns was related to the basicity of the amines and the steric hindrance of the ortho isomers. Detection limits were 1 ng for the ortho isomers and 3–5 ng for the meta and para isomers.
