Abstract
An assay for gentamicin in serum, plasma or urine is described. The method uses aminoglycoside 2′-N-acetyltransferase, an enzyme which acetylates all 3 components of commercially available gentamicin and which is therefore more suitable for measuring gentalnicin than is aminoglycoside 6′-N-acetyltransferase. The accuracy is at least as good as with aminoglycoside 2″-O-nucleotidyltransferase assays. The method gives good results in 4¼h for a cost of £0.35 per assay. Keywords
