Swine Growth and Composition as Associated with Total Serum Cholesterol

Abstract
Total serum cholesterol was measured at specific chronological ages throughout the growth-fattening period and prior to slaughter at 200 lb. in 63 market hogs. The size of the correlation coefficients indicated positive relationships between average daily gain and indices of total body fat with serum cholesterol and negative associations between lean muscle mass and cholesterol. Analysis of variance indicated that significant genetic predisposition of endogenous cholesterol levels commenced at approximately 125 days of age. Copyright © 1964.
