Acquired Coarctation of the Thoracic Aorta due to Calcified Thrombus

Abstract
A case of localized calcified thrombotic obstruction of the descending thoracic aorta producing a clinical picture of coarctation is described. The nature of the changes in the aortic wall indicated that the thrombosis was secondary to localized medial necrosis of which the etiology was unknown but which possibly was associated with the underlying hypertension.
