Abstract
Q-switched cw pumped Nd:YAG lasers provide high output power in combination with high peak power and high repetition frequencies. Welding highly reflecting materials, this operation mode should improve the coupling conditions of the laser beam. The experiments show a significant influence of the welding depth and the seam dimension. Furthermore, the beam quality is an important facto for the geometry of the welding seam. However at the achievable low spot diameters, the quality of the seam surface and the existence of pores reduce the advantage of this technique. Keywords
