Abstract
This paper deals with the problem of selecting the best approximation to an arbitrary function, using a given number of straight line segments to form the approximation. This is, of course, the basic problem of programming functions for generation by analog function generators. The author has formalized a noteworthy technique for optimal selection of breakpoints, and coupled his technique with a slope-selecting procedure based on least-squares optimization. Keywords
