Brain dynamics, dissipation and spontaneous breakdown of symmetry

  • 31 January 2007
Abstract
Neurophysiological data collected from electroencephalograms resulting from high-density arrays fixed on the surfaces of primary sensory and limbic areas of trained rabbits and cats are interpreted in terms of the many-body dissipative model of the brain. The formation of coherent domains of synchronized neuronal oscillatory activity and macroscopic functions of brain revealed by functional brain imaging in relation to behavior is described in terms of phase transition and pattern formation induced by spontaneous breakdown of symmetry.
