Abstract
It is shown that energies calculated for the hydrogen atom by enclosing it in a spherical box with radius R and treating the Coulomb attraction as a perturbation are convergent for small R and agree with previously obtained exact results. This method is useful for calculating the energies of systems at high pressure where these can be stimulated by confinement to a small box. (AIP)Keywords
