Thyroidolymphography

Abstract
Since Kinmonth (1–3) first reported lymphography by injection of contrast medium directly into the lymphatic channels, the method has been widely applied clinically and found useful in various lymphatic conditions. Theoretically, it could make possible the visualization of cervical lymph nodes, but exploration and cannulation of these lymph ducts as well as fixation of a tube make routine cervical lymphography infrequent. Gruart et al. (4) attempted to outline the upper cervical lymph nodes by injecting about 8 ml of Lipiodol or Ethiodol into the muscle at the base of the tongue and instructing the patient to then chew gum. In our efforts to outline regional lymph nodes of the thyroid preparatory to radical operation for carcinoma, we found in February 1968 that injection of a small amount of contrast material into the thyroid itself easily demonstrated both the organ on the injected side and its regional lymph nodes. This communication describes our technic for study of the thyroid and the cervical lymph...
