Abstract
We suggest that the surface of hcp 4He crystals undergoes a roughening transition at 1 K. Both theoretical and experimental arguments are presented. Previous measurements of the liquid-solid interfacial tension are reinterpreted. An estimation of the step-energy below 1 K is deducedKeywords
