Determination of the Polarizability Anisotropy of OCS by Microwave Spectroscopy

Abstract

A gas‐phase microwave parallel‐plate absorption cell capable of very accurate Stark effect measurements at high fields has been constructed. With this cell the polarizability anisotropy of OCS has been determined to be α_zz—α_xx = (5.34±0.06)×10⁻²⁴ cm³, where z denotes the molecular axis.
