Electrochemistry of copper, silver, gold, gallium, indium, and thallium in fused AlCl3–NaCl–KCl eutectic

Abstract
The electrochemistry of copper, silver, gold, gallium, indium, thallium, and their ions, and of chlorine and bromine in fused AlCl3–NaCl–KCl was investigated by electromotive force (e.m.f.) and voltam-metric techniques. Univalent oxidation states were observed for all the metals. In addition, copper was further oxidized to the divalent species while gallium and indium were oxidized to trivalent species. The standard potentials for the above couples were established in the AlCl3–NaCl–KCl eutectic at 135 °C.
