Abstract
The immunological cross reactivity of rabbit anti-human ovary and rabbit anti-pig ovary sera toward zona antigens was tested. Each was found to demonstrate a low degree of cross reactivity when tested by immunodiffusion against ovarian extracts obtained from the other species. Only one of the 41 anti-human ovary sera tested produced a precipitation layer on the isolated pig zona. However, all 10 of the 41 sera tested for antibodies which react with pig zona by the indirect fluorescent antibody technique were positive, including an antisera rendered specific to human ovary by absorption. Anti-pig ovary serum was found to cross react with isolated human zonae both by the production of a precipitation layer on the zona and by high levels of fluorescence in the indirect fluorescent antibody test. These findings indicate that a common antigen is shared by the human and pig zona pellucida.
