Abstract
Published experimental data for coexisting liquid and vapour densities for Hg and Cs near to the critical point have been analysed with the primary aim of estimating the critical exponent β for these metals. Contrary to previous sugges tions, the result for both is a value of β close to the non-classical value of 1/3. Our result is discussed in relation to current models of Hg and Cs near the critical point. Keywords
