Abstract
It is proposed that social psychological research can be justified in at least two complementary ways: First, as an attempt to reduce ignorance; second, as an attempt to reduce arrogance. Problems of the first and prospects for the second are discussed, and their implications for applied social psychology are stressed. Keywords
