THE PRESERVATION OF ACANTHARIANS IN FIXED PLANKTON SAMPLES1

Abstract
The spicular skeletons of acantharians dissolve readily in formalin‐seawater fixative solutions at pH levels of 3, 7, and 8.2. This dissolution has been checked by adding SrCl2· 6H2O to the fixative to increase the concentration of strontium to 10 times the normal seawater level of 8 mg/liter.
