Abstract
The action of selenium dioxide on several 2, 3-disubstituted indole derivatives was found to give the corresponding 2-acylindoles as shown in Table I. In the case of tricyclic mides, (VI and VII), this oxidation reaction resulted in the formation of a-vinylindoles and organoselenium compounds. On the basis of these products, the mechanism of the oxidation with selenium dioxide is discussed.Keywords
