Abstract
Community based policing (CBP) has become the “official morality” of modern policing in Canada, the United States and Britain. Yet its implementation to date has been quite limited and its measurable impact quite modest. Already too, researchers are beginning to 'deconstruct' the CBP philosophy and to argue that it has been oversold and may even be passe. The 1980’s saw the development of the CBP movement in policing. The 1990's will see just how significant its yield has been.
