Abstract
Relationships among type of management system, organizational uncertainty, and economic success in continuous process organizations were studied. An organic management system was found to be significantly more successful overall, but there were important distinctions between autonomous and nonautonomous organizations. Implications for organization theory, prior research, and managerial practice are discussed. Keywords
