Abstract
An improved method was described for the rapid and quantitative extraction of chlorophylls and other photosynthetic pigments from several species of marine macrophytes [Iridea, Polyneura, Gracilaria, Porphyra, Cigartina, Ulva, Laminaria, Alaria, Fucus]. The solvent system, dimethyl sulfoxide (DMSO) followed by methanol, is compared with standard methods in the quantitative recovery of chlorophylls from the various species tested. DMSO/methanol was significantly more efficient with difficult species such as Fucus. Methods to separate and quantify other photosynthetic pigments are proposed. This publication has 8 references indexed in Scilit:
