Abstract
Sulpiride is a potent antiemetic proposed for use in the treatment of peptic ulcer. In the present study, the inhibitory effect on pentagastrin-stimulated gastric secretion was tested in 8 patients with duodenal ulcer. During continuous infusion of pentagastrin (2 μg/kg/h) a moderate, but significant reduction (18 %) of acid output occurred after 100 mg sulpiride i.v. No side-effects were seen, and the results justify further investigation in order to determine the value of sulpiride in hypersecretory dyspepsia.
