Abstract
Urea, lactic acid, tartronic acid, or urea + tartronic acid were injected into fresh hen''s eggs and the uric acid content determined after 14, 17, and 19 days'' incubation. In every case the increase in uric acid was greater than in controls. The synthesis of uric acid during embryonic development is therefore pictured as follows: Amino acids produced from the hydrolysis of proteins are converted into urea. Simultaneously glucose is converted into lactic acid which is subsequently oxidized to tartronic acid. Tartronic acid condenses with one molecule of urea to form dialuric acid which, in turn, condenses with a second molecule of urea to form uric acid. This publication has 0 references indexed in Scilit:
