Abstract
The Sonicguide, an ultra-sonic binaural device mounted in a spectacle frame, is used as a secondary mobility aid. Since categorizing signals by timbre may improve training methods and clarify the capabilities of this device, the timbre of various Sonicguide signals was measured and analyzed by a “Sona-Graph”—a sound spectral analyzer. Signals showed considerable variation, but could be categorized into three groups. The characteristics of each group are readily definable and signals of any one group can easily be distinguished from signals of another group. In addition, certain signals within a group may be distinguished from signals in the same group. Keywords
