Abstract
The author studied 97 cases of mongolism in an attempt to form an opinon as to the cause of this type of mental deficiency. In 70% of cases the mothers were over 35 yrs. old when the patients were born. 7 of the patients were first born, 66 last born, 15 last but one. 8 were born between the other children. In many cases, the birth of a Mongol had taken place after a miscarriage. It was irrelevant whether the miscarriage had been caused by mechanical intervention-cur-retage, by intake of irritants[long dash]abortifacients, or was caused by shock or by syphilis. The author concluded that the unhealthy condition of the mucous membrane of the uterus at the time of the implantation of the impregnated ovum is probably the chief cause of Mongolism. This publication has 1 reference indexed in Scilit:
