Quantitative assessment of antilaminin antibodies in myocarditis and perimyocarditis

Abstract
Circulating antilaminin antibodies are increased in myocarditis and perimyocarditis both in incidence and concentration as assessed by a newly developed fluorometric assay (FIAX). Antilaminin antibodies belong to the microheterogeneity of antisarcolemmal antibodies as assessed by cryostat sections and of antimyolemmal antibodies as assessed by sedimented isolated mycocytes from rat and human cardiac tissue, since they are indistinguishable from other staining patterns with the indirect immunofluorescence test. Since the incidence and concentration of antilaminin antibodies do not coincide with immunoserologically assessed antisarcolemmal or antimyolemmal antibodies, they are thought to be either natural antibodies or only part of the non-tissue-specific set of antibodies directed against the cardiac membrane.
